Dream Symbology

I’ve been doing some thinking about dreams and the symbols and why they manifest. There are some common symbols which can be interpreted as foresight or they may represent elements in one’s life that need attention. Usually they are personal and have specific meaning to the individual. My question is how and why. For example; why are there specific animals for specific meanings? What is the connection within the human psyche? Do the animals have anything to do with it? All life is after all connected spiritually within the realm of universal consciousness.

They say that dreams are a portal to the other side. There time and space are not a linear concept. It’s a realm of folly I guess. Could it be that these connections were passed down through folklore and became ingrained in man’s psyche? And being that, these connections became part of the Universal Mind. Perhaps the universal mind is the mind of God. You know if you think of this hermetically from above the other side is an infinite realm of possibilities compared to everyday reality and when we dream we tap into that realm. From below the human brain while awake uses a small portion. In fact we never do use the brain’s potential. Just imagine if the total brain were to be active. I believe we would see infinite reality like we do on the other side, a totally awake lucid dream in a way. ;D

The other night I had an interesting dream. I was in a familiar place. I had dreamed of this particular landscape a few times. However at one point I was talking to Vajramukti who was washing some glasses behind some kind of home bar unit. I was also talking to some woman who had straight reddish blond hair. About shoulder length, she wasn’t wearing much make up and she was staring forward while I spoke with her looking at her from the side. I turned to the side to look out a window where she was staring and I saw a giant iguana climbing up a wire which was attached to the building. I saw it climb up and out of view. When I looked down two more iguanas were approaching me. One had reddish yellow coloring and the other was brown and large. One started to climb up my leg and I reached down to pet it and it played with my hand giving me gentle bites. I felt a sense of communion as I looked both in the eyes. I awoke shortly after. The dream stood out like most of my symbolic dreams do. I’m just trying to figure it out. What was the dream telling me?
Maybe the iguana is a spirit ally. What do you guys think, any insights?

Perhaps the universal mind is the mind of God.

Hmmm...makes me ponder...
Everything that is or ever was or ever will be originated from the same "Energy Source" - through everything runs the common thread of this Source...so if this "Source" (or God, Creator, etc.) is part of everything and everything is part of the Source - then the Universal Mind is the culmination of the whole...everything is connected, for every thing sprang from the same Source - the "mind of God". Perhaps we are God's dream?

As you know - the Iguana is native to Central and South America...it's symbology can be traced to the ancient cultures that lived there. I wonder if there might be a symbolic past connection in this dream? You related with the Iguana - communed with it...
Iguanas are survivors...they can stay out in the extreme heat when other lizards/animals have long retreated. They are very adaptable creatures. They possess a third eye...

The woman in your dream...you did not recognize her? Was she familiar to you? Were there any other physical characteristics which you remember about her? Did you feel you knew her?
She seems to have directed your attention to the Iguana.

What "feelings" were brought out for you in this dream? What does your heart tell you about it? It seems like a very personal symbol, perhaps.

I wonder if there might be a symbolic past connection in this dream? You related with the Iguana - communed with it...

There could be...but it's like dumping a million piece puzzle on the floor.
Where does one begin?

The woman in your dream...you did not recognize her? Was she familiar to you? Were there any other physical characteristics which you remember about her? Did you feel you knew her?

I can't recall if I recognized her.... She had wrinkles around her mouth. A face weathered by age. She had a kind sad look on her face.

I had this dream last Monday. I was staying at Ingrid's and I remember going to sleep with the intent of having a lucid dream. I wrote this post last night. This morning my Mother called me and informed me that my Uncle Bob had died last Thursday. She just found out this morning prior to calling. He was my Father's Brother, the youngest of three. He had Alzheimer's disease and a host of other conditions. He and his family rarely communicated with our family so I really didn't know him all that well. I remember him being a nice man. He was a steel worker, a large heavy set man. Perhaps the woman was my Grandmother whom I was very close to. Perhaps the large iguana ascending the wire was symbolic of my Uncle's ascension. One of three...

In dreams we become briefly unified again with the Collective Conscious. Dreamtime events with animals are part of our Universal spirit which we forget when, once again are awake and become a self-important human.

In dreams you can do anything. A dream appears to be a muddle of confused and strange events which one generally puts down to "something you ate" but is in fact the higher psyche of Self returning to the primitive state of reality.

There is no way I would want to interpret my dreams becasue that is akin to the need of science to meddle and prove things which cannot be understood or proven. In dreams we let go those worries and shackles and become pure uninhibited imagination and in that state is the place for wonder and hope, love and wisdom to permeate the sleeping mind and to be brought into the state of waking ... (hopefully)

You have interpreted this dream beautifully as a reflection of your own connections...as we all must. I have never believed that another can fully interpret our dreams...I feel it is part of the "looking within" process that we all must do. Others can help us to make the connections...but, ultimately, we are leading our 'selves' in the dreaming process (with help from our guides) to a deeper understanding/realization.

In patience lies the road to the soul.
I've had some amazing dreams that stood out...but it was not until years later that their true meaning began to unfold...and some are still unfolding.... Some of the more profound dreams we have are often a gentle "shove" ,if you will, toward some form of understanding/lesson.

I personally feel that to completely ignore one's dreams is to ignore a part of one's own self...and the messages therein.

Like buried treasure...the messages contained in our dreams are the gold of the 'realm of stardust'.

Permeating the mind with love and wisdom...that has to come after experience of course. Self importance..a position of inner harmony?...a disproportional balance of giving and receiving....heavy on the giving I would think. We ultimately give to ourself if you think about it. I believe if we love ourself (trust) as we love humanity we can't go wrong as long as we keep the balance disproportional. You have to love yourself in some capacity. In many cultures the philosophy of sacrifice has been the seat of the Christos. It gives purpose.

But sleeping is a recovery phase not only for the body but essential for the mind/sprit and unwakened Christos in everyone and I truly believe that love and wisdom are to be found in the night dreaming state, and not only from experience, but through self understanding and the understanding of the Self. Loving and tolerance of humanity should then come naturally.

A waking human is self important insofar that he has wants and ambitions, an unchecked desire for things physical and a primal need to survive.
