Sometime ago I had a very profectic dream...one which continues to unravel it's mysteries.
It was one of the dreams we have which "stands out" so to speak...not mind junk...but something more.
Before me stood an old man dressed in a buckskin like jacket to his knees...and pants of the same material.... on his head he wore a headress which I was not familiar with...feathers which stood striaght up in a circular fashion round his head...in his left hand he held a staff of sorts (like a spear) on the top of this staff hung beads from rawhide tassles.
He stood alone in this dream....waiting...I approached him - and without any forethought I said, " My mother's people are of the Micmac tribe of the East." At that moment I remember wanting him to understand that I came in good faith.
I knelt before him...and lowered my head...I remember he began to chant and he moved the staff over me....I felt the most intense feeling...almost electric run through me at that moment.
I stood up and thanked him. I went to take his hand ... and jumped back a bit when I realized he was missing most of his fingers...then I appologized and took his hand strongly in mine.
At the time of the dream I had not heard of the mi'kmaq tribe...but I googled "micmac" and discovered that they were from Eastern Canada. I also found pictures which made my dream very "profound" in nature...for there were similar headresses and clothing as the man in my dream.

That was a couple of years ago.
Just this weekend I spoke to my mother of her ancestry...her distant relatives. She told me, for the first time, that my great, great grandfather John Jones had come to Canada from Wales...and he had married a Native (Indian) woman.
I asked what tribe...but my mother had no idea. Back then it wasn't spoken of. It was an embarassment.
How sad.
I now have a thread to unravel. Did my Great Great Grandfather arrive in eastern Canada...from Wales...take a wife of the Mi'Kmaq people and move into the Ottawa Valley where my mother's people called home?
It would seem that the man in my dream that blessed me was trying to convey something of great import...
A dream vision to be sure.
How sad that no one remembers her name. She was an important part of the heritage of the family...but she was just an indian woman.... That's how it was viewed once.
To me she is my "grandmother" and I am proud of this connection. She must have gone through alot. She deserves the respect to which she is owed.
I would love to meet with her. She is one of those who gave me my spirit.
I thank her.
