Watching Senator Dodd squirm as he was busted lying is really something. No big deal to him. This kind of admission is precisely why I cannot align myself with either of the parties core values. They're all basically hypocrites without personal core principles. How much do you want to bet that Obama knew of the clause inserted by Dodd and it had his complete blessing because he had received the largest amount of lobby money ever received. Just look what happens when the media follows the money. Watching C-span and the grilling that Liddy received made me realize that the hearings are just a show. What came out of it all? A tax bill on the fast track. That doesn't address ethics issues at all. GOP pied piper Rush Limbaugh is advocating these bonuses, meanwhile Ron Paul is being mocked because he wants to reverse policies that lead to precisely these kind of issues. Ron Paul is stuck in a cuckoo's nest.

What I advocate is the AIG execs voluntarily giving the bonuses back. The vote in the House today to tax 90% of it is blatantly unConstitutional. It is explicitly against two articles, Congress being unable to legislate ex post facto, and Congress being unable to legislate punishment and single out a person or group of people.
The contracts were in place. The bonuses are legal, and required. The government screwed up. Live with it and learn from it. The bonuses are equal to less than 1/1000 of the bailout money. And, something like half the execs are already giving at least portions of it back.
You know what's funny? Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac execs received huge bonuses too. Where's the outrage?
But, I agree. The execs are not deserving of the bonuses, but, private contracts were in place, the government chose to look the other way, and are now feigning outrage to cover their collective posteriors. And, yes, this began in the Bush Administration. Tim Geitner was the architect from the beginning. It is an excellent example of what is to come under Big Government. It'll be like Amway. Everyone positioning for the top, and no one producing.
You know what scares me? The backlash when the pendulum swings the other way. All things seek equilibrium. With this unprecedented leftist power grab will come a big swing to the far right. Unfortunately, where communism and totalitarianism exist on the far left, anarchy exists on the far right. Although I am on the right, I freely admit that those on the far right of "my side" are the nutjobs that holed up in Waco, Ruby Ridge, and blew up the federal building in Oklahoma. Continuation of this power grab is going to cause the nutjobs to retreat further into their dogma, and may cause the mainstream right to shift somewhat that direction.
Congress seems to feel that an Obama Presidency has given them carte blanche to do as they wish. He had better assume command quickly, or it will be taken from him. He did pretty good today, talking about getting past blame and onto solutions. But, the time for talk is over. Let's do a little walking.
