Interesting day. Good speech, somewhat understated as it should be. Didn't live up to the hype, but how could it?
The news commentary was struggling to find the "phrase to etch in granite." I think I found it...
Paraphrasing here..."To the people of the Muslim world, we will reach out our hand if you will unclench your fist."
There is a poem, perhaps a song there. Unclench your fist and take my hand...

I agree, that was an impressive section. The part I liked the most was the one I highlighted above.
But my favorite sections was:
So Mote It Be!

It was a very good speech. Later that evening I was watching John Stewart on Comedy Central and he compared GWB's inaugural speech to Obama's and they were nearly identical almost verbatim in some parts. I wonder if he recruited some of the same speech writers....As far as the hype I will reserve any excitement until see some results.

Yes, so mote it be. I do need to get a text of that speech.
The hype? We'll see. It seems to be lessening already as he gets to work.
I was impressed that both he and Roberts messed up on the Oath. It shows that both men were a bit humbled by what was happening.

I wasn't impressed but I was laughing at Roberts because he decided to commit the oath to memory. There was some talk about Roberts voting against Obama on some key issue and perhaps that made him nervous. Maybe he is afraid that he may be replaced? Obama messed up because of Roberts. Doing the oath a second time without the press should bring up some juicy conspiracies especially because the Bible wasn't used.

It appears that Roberts messed up because Obama began repeating too early. Either way, those, to me, are the kind of things that make these events human.

"The Oath" from FDR to Obama uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tYnYdT1CqTcNote: Truman kissed the Bible (very "Masonic") Eisenhower's oath was screwed up Bush 41 almost screwed up The Oath does not make a person the President, it is only, however, required that it be taken. The elected becomes President at Noon! (new sheriff in town!)
