I've posted about Equinox, and that was a little out of chronology though it was current to the day I started posting. Now I'd like to go back and start at the beginning of my Norse practice.
Now, Norse isn't something I've been involved with all my life or something someone I knew turned me on to, in fact, it's very new in my life. I've run across the pantheon and a scraping of its lore over the years through games and studies, but I never much paid attention to it, much like other pantheons. I just sort of looked it over and said 'neato, ok, that's all I need to know...'
Then it came to be that while working on a manuscript draft with my writing partner, there came a need to look at the Norse again. So I researched some, got my info, moved on. But then it kept nagging me, and I'd look more, and it'd nag more, and I'd look more...and within the short span of about 2 weeks, I was nearly always researching something Norse. Deities, writings, history, geography, all manner of things.
Then I had a dream.
Damn dreams. They always sneak up on you when you're asleep. Hahaaaa...
Anyway, a dream:
Sleeping under a tree, me.
A matron type woman (30ish) with long strawberry hair wearing armor and a gown walk up to where I lay. I look up briefly, being roused from my sleep, but she says nothing, nor acknowledges me in any way. She simply lays a stone by my head and walks away.
I wake fully (though I am actually still dreaming in the physical sense) and look at the stone. It is black and on it is a symbol carved in white. *End of Dream*
I wake up physically in my room wondering WTF???
Now I have this symbol in my head and go tearing through cyberspace to find it. I go where makes the most sense: The Runes.
I find the symbol there: Othala
Othala: (O: Ancestral property.) Inherited property or possessions, a house, a home. What is truly important to one. Group order, group prosperity. Land of birth, spiritual heritage, experience and fundamental values. Aid in spiritual and physical journeys. Source of safety, increase and abundance.
I go... ...and feel that I've just been summoned.
Now, a quick interjection to clear up why I felt so strongly about that Rune and why it called me 'home'. I am 7/8 German by heredity and have bloodlines that trace back to the Viking kings and Saxon tribes and Norse/Germanic pre-christian religion would certainly be the practice of my forefathers.
I then sought out a few 'experts' on the subject and shared my experience with the dream and was time and again reassured that the figure was Freya, and that the message was an invitation to reclaim my ancestral practice. I felt so strongly about the vision that I did so without second thoughts (Which I think G will attest is not usual for me, the one who never adheres to any one particular thing. )
Since then (Which was late summer/Autumn Equinoxish time) many, many incredible, interesting, and powerful things have invaded my life. I'll share all that later as I go along and even though this covers only about a 6 month time frame, it's packed full of great stuff.
